Brilliant!

I found this on Boing Boing... a 5-minute mockumentary about the "Presidential Speechalist." Yeah, it's got Andy Dick, but don't hold that against it.

Moving sucks. I love moving.

I'm typing this at work, at an hour that can only be described as thoroughly unreasonable (I took a shift for a friend). How some people can get up early and go to work at 7 every day is a complete mystery to me.

So, moving yesterday... if there's one thing I hate about moving, it's all the schlepping of stuff from one place to another. That, and the multiple trips back to the old place to get the rest of the stuff that you just didn't have time to pack.

We're mostly moved in, though. The big stuff is there. I have a bed, a desk, and a cat, who emerged from his hiding place under the aforementioned bed sometime last night and cuddled with me as I slept. We've got a couch and a chaise in the living room (courtesy of Annette) and eight bookcases' worth of books to cram onto five bookcases in our dining room/library (which still needs another coat or two of paint to tone the color down). We'll soon have a fully stocked kitchen. In short, this is going to be a home, in a way the previous place wasn't.

I'll take some pictures once we're settled in... and those of you in far-flung places should really consider visiting. Our couches are nice and comfy for sleeping, and we'll be getting my futon in there as well before too long...

News.

As some of you have no doubt heard, I broke up with Alisa on Wednesday night. Out of respect for our relationship and for her, I'm not going to go into any details on this public forum, save to say that it's probably the hardest decision I've ever had to make... if you want to talk with me about it, please email me.

Stop me if you've heard this one.

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying, "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed in an accident."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims, "That’s terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the president sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up, tears in his eyes, and asks, "How many more than a million is a Brazilian?"

Sorry to all the Bushistas... I couldn't resist. Back to work.

Film Progress Report

Capturing's done. I'm now going back through the interviews (all 9 hours or so!) and rewatching them, taking notes in a huge clip database, so that I can put together the story of this whole thing. I'm thinking I'm going to build the audio first - string together interviews to make a cohesive story (because I don't have Morgan Freeman to do the voice-overs for me) and lay the interview video over top, then use other images over those. It seems to me that absent a voice-over, that's the way to do it - that way, at least the story is told, whether or not it works visually.

The next part, after this tedious process is done, is to decide which stories I want to tell, and which ones to leave on the (metaphorical) floor - I've got 1/2 hour and can't tell everything, so I'm going to probably have to keep it to the main story plus one major subplot (Howard) and one minor (I'm not sure what yet), along with hints at other stories. That's going to be tough, since there are so many good stories to tell.

The big fear now, of course, is that as I get to the part where I actually put this thing together, I'm going to find out that I have absolutely no idea what on Earth I'm doing.

I hope that doesn't happen.
