in which I ruminate about how I never post anymore...

Yeah. News.

Went to Michigan for the youngest bro's graduation party. It was nice seeing the family, Alisa got to meet some Gilmores, good times all around - except that every day was in the mid-90's with humidity so thick it was like we were swimming. Mid-90's I can take - heck, sometimes we've got that in April - but when it gets sticky like that, and I sweat uncontrollably, it's rather unpleasant.

Got my grades for Spring quarter. Two A's and an A-, which makes this a tie for my best Fuller quarter yet. That makes me happy, not only because I got good grades but because I actually think my work in the actual classes merited the grades I got. I honestly can't recall being prouder of a paper than I was in my paper for the Newbigin class.

Work on Stations of the Cross: The Movie continues. I've got interviews to set up and an editing process to start... and a deadline somewhere around the end of September, I think. Sounds like fun to me.

Any questions?

Earthquake!

I've just experienced my first earthquake since moving here almost two years ago. I was sitting here working and the ground shook for about five seconds. It felt like a big truck or freight train was passing through the hallway outside my office. That was by far the most interesting thing to happen to me today.

And before you Florida and Michigan/Ohio people start scoffing, I'd like to point out that the danger of my perishing in either a hurricane or a tornado out here in Los Angeles is almost zero. We all get our natural disasters... at least out here, ours are dry and don't involve too much wind, so our hair doesn't get messed up.

But I am going to go a little faster on freeway overpasses tonight. Now there's a place I don't want to be when the Big One(tm) hits.

The one thing I think the Bible lacks...

...is a good story where someone bangs their head on something.

I was thinking about that tonight.

I'm generally not a temperate person to begin with, but I have to say that the times in my life when I've been filled with the most rage have generally been the few seconds following my banging my head on something. I'll stand up suddenly in a short space and hit my head - or walk into a low-hanging door without thinking - and for a few moments I'm so absolutely pissed that if I had the capacity to blow up the world, I'd do it. That passes with the really strong pain impulse.

And the Bible doesn't seem to have anything to say to that. Sure, it's got people in the depths of despair, and the seeming height of rage, but it doesn't have anyone banging his or her head on anything. And that, I think, is a crucial lack.

Just a thought.
