Disneyland and other sundries.

It's Alisa's and my 1-1/2 year anniversary today. (Only it's really not an anniversary, since that term refers only to periods of one year, rather than its common usage to refer to any milestone period of time. I'm kind of an elitist.) I think she's cool, and wouldn't be opposed to our staying together for an indefinite period of time into the future.

That is, if she has the patience to put up with me. Odds are, she'll get sick of me sooner or later. I can be a real jackass sometimes.

Anyway, to celebrate this momentous occasion, I took her to Disneyland on Saturday. That left me with four observations:

1. Disney is getting a little better at the whole "theme park" game, though they still don't seem to have figured out that bigger rollercoasters are better rollercoasters. Unfortunately, none of the other Southern California theme parks seem to have gotten that memo either, including the Cedar Fair-owned Knott's.

2. I'm not as young as I used to be, and consequently have less stomach for rides that involve things like free-fall or other changes in local gravity. (I can still ride them without incident, but it takes a little while for my head to recover.)

3. I'm incredibly happy that I've set up my life in such a way as to not come into regular contact with children. My job, my school, my church, my home... at none of these places are there children on a regular basis. And that fact is extremely gratifying to me, because I remember just how much I dislike children every time I find myself among them, such as at large child-oriented theme parks with oversize cartoon characters.

4. I also strongly dislike oversize cartoon characters, particularly when they bother me during meals.

And thus, my observations end.

It's over 80 today, and should remain in the 80's all week. If I can't get out surfing sometime this week, I'll never forgive myself.

Tidbits

I think the word "guesstimate" should be permanently banned from the English Language, and fines levied for its use.

I also think that whenever news reporters talk about something Governor Ahnuld does, they should be required to impersonate his voice. "Governor Schwarzenegger proposed wide budget increases" would become "Governah Schwarzeneggah proposed vide bahdget eencreases." That would make the news much more listenable.

Any more modest proposals?

Monthly Update.

I keep meaning to update and I don't. Alas.

Christmas and New Year were nice, but cold. Very cold. The day before I left LA, it was 80 and sunny... I got off the plane in Detroit the next day, and it was 1. 1 degree. I just about turned around and ordered a ticket back to LA, where "cold" means 50's. But I stayed, and celebrated some Christmas, New Year's, and political arguments. All told, good times.

It's very rainy here, and it's not supposed to get any better until Tuesday. Alisa was a little worried when we drove past the LA "River" today, because it's just about as high as I've ever seen it, and we've still got two days of rain ahead of us. I'm not as much worried about that as I am about the fact that LA drivers can't drive in dry weather, much less rain.

I wish I had more to say, but alas, I do not. I almost bought an iPod today at Best Buy but then decided not to, since I don't know when I'd use it. I bought the Simpsons Season 5 DVD, Star Wars Trilogy DVD, and U2 "Atomic Bomb" Deluxe Edition instead. I'm pretty happy with my choice.

I've also decided that this quarter I'm actually going to do the assigned readings for all my classes. Or at least, I think that now. I'm hoping to have enough momentum to do some reading come Week 6. We'll see.

Oh, and the Astros didn't sign Carlos Beltran, which is wonderful news for the Cubbies... even if we don't sign him, at least now he'll be out of the NL Central. I just hope he doesn't become a Yankee. I hate the freakin' Yankees.
