Welcome to mistersite.net, home of... well, something unique, I hope. Be sure to check out all those lovely links to the left to see who I am, what I do, and what I like. Read my blog too... it's right under this paragraph. And leave a comment, so I know you've visited.
Item the First: The Red Sox. Boy am I happy. Not only did they win, but they won against the Cardinals, whom (as a Cubs fan) I dislike strongly. (Interesting side note: the Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots all won their first championships by beating St. Louis teams.)
Item the Second: Why can't they make campaign ads like this in English, too? Ten cuidado del nombre Bush! I'm sure someone in my audience speaks Spanish, and should translate that phrase in the comments box for the edification of the rest of my audience.
Item the Third: There is no Item the Third.

In the news...
...first off, let me express my complete joy at the Red Sox being one win away from breaking the Curse of the Bambino. It was good enough that they pasted the Stankees (the best team George Steinbrenner could buy) but it's even better that they've got a shot at winning the Big Trophy Thing. If it wasn't going to be my Cubbies, I'm glad it's looking like it'll be the Sox. (Besides, I'm counting on a Curse Domino Effect.) Hopefully they win tonight and get out the brooms...
...second, some news from our friends at Yahoo. Seems that evangelicals are starting to wake up to the real George W. Bush. Maybe this will mean the end of the notion that the church is Republican?
...third, check out this cool Electoral Vote Predictor. You can see exactly how many states Kerry will carry (hehehe, that's poetic) to be the next President.
Sick of politics on this site? Well, too bad. This is the most important election of my lifetime, and I feel the need to use this soapbox to express my political views and the reasons behind them, regardless of whether my audience agrees with them or not. I see the Bush administration as a danger not only to this country but to the world, so I feel the need to speak out against them, as is my right. Don't like it? Don't read it.
Maybe I'll update a little about my life later this week.

President Bush claims there isn't going to be a draft.
But there already is one... "stop-loss" orders, "stop-move" orders, and activation of the IRR. They're forcing soldiers to stay beyond their terms of enlistment, many of whom against their wills.
The only difference is that they're drafting people who already bucked up and did their duty.
Meanwhile, only one US Congressperson has a son or daughter in the enlisted ranks. The volunteer military is composed largely of people from lower to lower-middle class homes, while the children of the rich stay home and go to college, benefitting from the tax-cuts they got from the Bush administration - the first time during a period of "war" that this nation, or any in recorded history, has ever cut taxes.
That's just not fair.

God is not a Republican... or a Democrat.
Read this article on how Fuller professors have published a statement criticizing Bush's Iraq war. Also read this delightful Washington Post Op-Ed from E.J. Dionne.
It seems like people are starting to get the message that the Republican Party doesn't have a corner on the Christian market. I just hope it's in time for the people of the American Church to wake up and start resisting the "Bush is the Christian candidate" crap and look at the candidates' stand on all the issues in light of the teachings of the Bible.
Oh, and if you're interested, my former ethics professor Glen Stassen - who also helped draft the letter to Bush - has written an article about the reality of abortion policy under George W Bush. It's quite a good read.

During Friday night's debate...
...George W. Bush was asked to name three mistakes he had made during his term in office.
He couldn't.
Let's help him out.
Here's my list:
1. The obvious: A misguided, irresponsible, illegal, and reprehensible war on a nation that posed no threat to us and had not attacked us, resulting in a grand distraction and diversion of resources from the pursuit of those who actually attacked us.
2. Tax cuts for the richest Americans, which have sent our nation further into deficit and debt than ever before in history.
3. Gutting the Kyoto Protocols, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and virtually all other legal barriers in place protecting our nation's environment and treasures from businesses and people who would exploit them for profit.
Any others?

Sinclair Broadcasting Group
I read an article here about plans by the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, a media company, to preempt regular programming on the affiliates it owns, in order to broadcast an anti-Kerry "documentary" with at-best polemical aims. For your information, Sinclair is the same company that ordered its affiliates not to air Ted Koppel's reading of the names of fallen soldiers in Iraq. Sinclair is a heavy Republican and Bush donor, and has in the past forced news anchors on its affiliates - even sports and weather reporters - to read statements on the air like "we support our President one hundred percent."
This latest effort, coming as it does on the cusp of an important national election, is a blatantly partisan effort to sway the vote in favor of Bush - from a group which uses the public's airwaves. I urge my readers to write Sinclair, and join me in boycotting Sinclair's advertisers (a list can be found here.)
I'm asking you - my 100+ per day viewers - to join me in boycotting Sinclair Broadcasting Group's sponsors and advertisers. You can find more information here. Please join me in this effort.
