Welcome to mistersite.net, home of... well, something unique, I hope. Be sure to check out all those lovely links to the left to see who I am, what I do, and what I like. Read my blog too... it's right under this paragraph. And leave a comment, so I know you've visited.
It's politics time...
...and I'm going to try to be as inoffensive as possible.
First, if John Kerry is reading this (and I know you are), please please please please PLEASE don't pick Gephardt as your running mate. Geppy is political suicide. And he's from Iowa. Edwards is your man... he's a populist, he's likeable, he's very good-looking, and when your two terms are up he's a lock for the Plush Executive Chair. Not to mention that he isn't from Iowa.
Second, to the Bush campaign, about the Hitler ad which has riled the DNC... please, just stop it. The implication that the DNC, or even moveon.org, actually put out or supported the ad, is completely false and you know it. Take it down and quit being hypocritical.
Third, Fahrenheit 9/11... everyone out there needs to see this movie, if for no other reason that it will be part of the political landscape for 2004. Is it balanced? Of course not, nobody's pretending it is, least of all Michael Moore. Is Michael Moore obnoxious? Of course he is... but then, so are Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Al Franken, and yours truly. The fact that the speaker is obnoxious and opinionated is no reason not to listen to what he or she says... if it was, you'd have all stopped reading this months ago.
There are parts of the film I didn't like as much... particularly the implication, never actually stated but running as an undercurrent throughout, that Bush knew about or had something to do with 9/11. I still don't think even the neocons would do something as despicable as attack their own country. But a lot of this stuff needed to be laid out in the open - the Bush/Cheney ties to the House of Saud, the defense contractors, and the energy companies; the fact that it is the lower class, not all of America, that is making the bulk of the sacrifice; and most poignantly the real loss experienced by real people, American and Iraqi alike, as a result of this war.
Those who are planning to vote this November - and that should be all of my readers who have attained the age of eighteen - should see this movie before voting, if for no other reason than to know exactly what they're voting for or against. In fact, I'll gladly buy your ticket... just mail me your ticket stub, and I'll write a check to reimburse you for whatever the cost.
Okay, that's my last political post for a few weeks... unless something major happens that really ticks me off.

Musings...
Wall, Michelle, and I went to the Playboy Jazz Festival this weekend, which despite the name was actually one of the classiest times I've ever had. We brought a few bottles of wine, and some cheese and bread, and sat and watched eight hours of some of the best jazz music I've ever seen, including an hourlong set by these guys. It was a lot of fun... we talked to the people around us, enjoyed a lot of good music, and got to see the wonder that is the Hollywood Bowl.
I also got a little sun.
In other news, things around here are going pretty much as they usually are. I'm working "full time" - meaning I'm not technically a full-time employee with the bennies and all, but I'm still putting in 40 a week like any other schmo. It's good work... interesting enough to keep my mind occupied, techie enough to let me look at new gadgets and toys all day, and still with the Seminary so that I'm at least partially convinced I'm doing something good for the world. Not that I'd be opposed to doing something more meaningful someday...
...I just have to figure out what. Right now I feel like I'm here going after a Ph.D because I don't have anything better to do, and it's not like God's calling me anywhere. Now don't get me wrong... that's perfectly fine by me at this point, and if God doesn't think I'm ready to do What I'm Supposed To Do(tm) then I'm not about to tell God that God's wrong. I figure, when God's good and ready to tell me something, God will, and in the meantime I might as well keep racking up degrees, because it gives me a little more flexibility. But still, being around all these people who have Purposes and stuff is weird.
So that's my little bit of self-indulgent laying-bare-my-soul stuff for the next year. Hope you enjoyed it, because next time, it's back to politics. Boy, I know we all love politics.

PISTONS!
I'm usually not a big NBA fan. In fact, I'm fond of saying that basketball has been dead since Jordan's second retirement in 1998. Alas, the Pistons have proven me wrong. It's so wonderful to see the Lakers lose, and the fact that they lost to the Pistons - whom I've never really cared about all that much, but they are from Detroit - makes it even sweeter.
Now all we need is for the Cubbies to beat the Yankees in the Series.

An American icon has died.
Ray Charles, R&B legend, succumbed to liver disease today at the age of 73. America has truly lost a national treasure in this musical genius, who overcame poverty, heroin addiction, and blindness to become one of the greatest musical icons in American history.
His loss will be deeply felt.

In light of Tampa Bay's Stanley Cup win...
...I present three proposals:
1. In the future, NHL franchises should not be permitted in cities where hockey cannot be played outside at any time during the year.
2. If a franchise from such a city is playing in the Stanley Cup finals, it should not be allowed to win, as a matter of principle.
3. If such a franchise is playing in the Stanley Cup finals against a team which is not only from Canada, but from one of the most desolate places in Canada, it should immediately forfeit the series, again as a matter of principle.
That is all.

The masses clamor...
...and I update.
But not until the masses clamor.
Things have been rather busy around here, which is why I haven't updated. I took a full-time job - I'm the Interim Media Services Coordinator at Fuller - and so that's been a good 80 hours of the past two weeks. Plus, it's getting to the end of the quarter, so I've had papers and exams and all those school trappings.
This weekend, though, was somewhat of a respite from all that, as I went to Ohio to attend Karl and Jessie's wedding. It was a wonderful time, getting to see old friends and see two of my favorite people in the world get married. Oh, and Alisa was there, which made the weekend just that much better. I'm so happy for Karl and Jessie, but I'm not going to gush about it because, hey, I don't do that.
But this week is more of the same... work, exams, and about 21 pages of paper due Friday that I haven't started yet. I think this is going to be my last update for a while.....
